| The California Guitar Trio is just about as
much fun as you could imagine. Three guys with amplified acoustic
guitars whose repertoire ranges from classical to surf music to
progressive jazz/rock fusion. Their website is an interesting starting
point for information about them, their guitars, their background and
their mentor (Robert Fripp of King Crimson).
I've got both of their albums, and I've seen them in concert once. Highly recommended if you love guitars. Ever think of building your own guitar? I have. Haven't had the time or the courage to take the plunge tho'. If you're interested in guitar construction (or just thinking about it), check out http://www.buildyourguitar.com/. You'll probably also want to peruse a Stewart MacDonald catalog, which includes parts, supplies, books, etc. Their website also has some interesting archival information from past catalogs. |
If you're an amateur (and/or self-taught)
guitarist, you've probably used tablature, a system of notation that's
tailor-made for us dummies who can't read music.
A lot of people have worked very hard to transcribe popular guitar music in tablature, and at one time there was a resource called OLGA, the Online Guitar Archive that indexed and made available for download tablature files. At one time the record labels systematically managed to shut down OLGA and other sites offering tablature. However, they now seem to have bigger fish to fry with the ripping and file-swapping issue, so tab seems to have fallen off their radar scopes. This site has been up for well over a year, and I haven't had much trouble finding just about anything I've looked for on the web. The quality varies considerably, but usually ya just need something to getcha in the ballpark. The site is http://www.guitarists.net/ If you learn of any others that you like, let me know via e-mail, and I'll check it out and add its link to this page. |
