I don’t follow pop music very much, so I don’t even know what they were up against, but I have to agree with the selection of Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories as 2014 Album of the Year at the Grammy’s. I’m glad I ripped it to a digital version, ’cause I’da already worn the grooves off of it if I had it on vinyl, and even the CD might be seeing some wear ‘n’ tear…
However, while “Get Lucky” is a great track, it just can’t hold a candle to “Lose Yourself to Dance”, and in my opinion LYTD is much more deserving of Record of the Year. (Maybe it had to be released as a “single” or some such stoopid rule. I don’t even know what a “single” is anymore…)
This song grabs you with the most infectious hook, then just when you might start getting bored with it, they start layering in more cool stuff. These guys are geniuses!
I challenge you to watch this video (which is a lot of fun – better than the official Daft Punk video) and not start moving. Since I have a standing desk at work, I’m afraid someone is gonna spot me starting to shake my booty when this track comes around on the ol’ playlist!!
